Sample answer
In my opinion, it's a great idea to learn a few words and phrases in the local language before you go on vacation. When you know a little bit of the language, you can communicate better with local people. This can be very helpful in restaurants, shops, and when asking for directions. It also shows that you have respect for the culture of the place you are visiting. This can make local people friendlier and more welcoming, and it can make your trip more enjoyable and memorable.
However, some people think learning the local language is not necessary. They argue that many people around the world speak English, especially in places where tourists go a lot. They also point out that there are apps for your phone that can translate languages instantly. These people believe that it's better to use your time to plan other aspects of your trip, like where to visit and what to see, instead of spending time learning a new language. They think that with English and technology, you can manage well enough without knowing the local language.

Argument preparation (3 minutes)
Student has 2-3 mins to think about their arguments.
Suggesting points:
- Support: physical health benefit, flexibility and balance, weight management
- Against: injury risk, not comprehensive
Debate (8 minutes)
Student has 2-4 mins to present their arguments.
Teacher helps student to expand their ideas, think critically & more views about this topic (by asking more questions about this topic).
Sample answer
In my opinion, dancing is a really good way to exercise. It helps keep your body healthy because when you dance, it makes your heart work better. Dancing is also fun and can help you stay at a good weight because it burns calories. Plus, it makes you more flexible and helps you balance better. When you learn to move your body in different ways, it helps your muscles and joints stay strong.
However, some people think dancing might not be the best exercise for everyone. They worry about getting hurt because some dance moves are hard and you can easily twist something or fall down. Also, they say dancing doesn't do everything. For example, it might not build your muscles as much as lifting weights, or it might not be as good for your heart as running a long time.
Even with these points, I think dancing is a great way to exercise. It's fun, good for your body, and a nice way to stay healthy. Plus, you can do it with music, which makes it even more enjoyable.
Debate 3
Topic: Should people talk about their achievements or keep them private?
In a debate on this topic, you need to talk about whether it’s more beneficial or appropriate for individuals to share their achievements with others or to keep them private. Say if you agree or disagree, give reasons, and use simple examples.
Argument preparation (3 minutes)
Student has 2-3 mins to think about their arguments.
Suggesting points:
- Support for sharing achievement: motivation & inspiration, networking & opportunities, recognition & validation
- Support for keeping achievements private: humility & privacy, avoiding jealousy & conflict
Debate (8 minutes)
Student has 2-4 mins to present their arguments.
Teacher helps student to expand their ideas, think critically & more views about this topic (by asking more questions about this topic).
Sample answer
I think it's good for people to talk about their achievements. When you share what you have done, it can inspire other people to try hard too. For example, if a friend tells you that they won a prize in a competition, it might make you want to join the competition too. Talking about your achievements can also help you meet new people who are interested in the same things as you. This can bring you more chances and opportunities. Also, when you tell others about your success, it makes you feel recognized and happy about what you have done.
However, some people think it's better to keep achievements private. They believe it's important to be humble and not show off. Keeping things private means you avoid making others feel jealous or starting any arguments. Some people just like to be private and think that their achievements are just for them and not for everyone else.
Even though there are good reasons to keep achievements private, I believe sharing them is usually better. It can bring a lot of good things like motivation, new friends, and happy feelings.
Debate 4
Topic: Should fast food restaurants be required to offer more healthy options?
In a debate on this topic, you need to talk about whether fast food restaurants should have a mandatory policy to include healthier food options on their menus. Say if you agree or disagree, give reasons, and use simple examples.
Argument preparation (3 minutes)
Student has 2-3 mins to think about their arguments.
Suggesting points:
- Support for requiring healthy options: public health improvement, consumer choice, social responsibility
- Against: increased costs, market demand, personal responsibility
Debate (8 minutes)
Student has 2-4 mins to present their arguments.
Teacher helps student to expand their ideas, think critically & more views about this topic (by asking more questions about this topic).
Sample answer
I think fast food restaurants should offer more healthy options. It's good for public health. If fast food places have healthier foods like salads and fruits, it might help people choose better foods more often. This can keep people healthier. Also, having more choices means everyone can find something they like to eat.
However, some people say that fast food restaurants shouldn't have to change their menus. They think it costs too much money for restaurants, and most people choose fast food for items like burgers and fries, not salads. These people believe that choosing healthy food is each person's own responsibility.
Despite these points, I believe that fast food restaurants should have more healthy options. It can help everyone have the chance to eat healthier, which is good for everyone's health.
