Alice and Bob are talking about getting fit and exercise choices

Alice
Hi Bob! I’ve been thinking about starting a diet to get in shape. Have you ever tried one?
Hey Alice! Yes, I’ve actually been on a diet for a month now. I’ve cut down on sugars and carbs.

Bob

Alice
That sounds possible. I’ve also considered jogging in the mornings. Do you jog?
I used to, but now I’m more into indoor workouts. I can’t stand jogging in the cold weather.

Bob

Alice
Makes sense. I don’t mind jogging indoor at the gym though. It’s a great way to avoid putting on weight.
Definitely. Plus, there are so many different indoor exercises to keep fitness fun.

Bob

Alice
True. So, what’s your favorite indoor exercise?
I‘m really into yoga lately. It helps with flexibility and strength. What about you?

Bob

Alice
I like dance classes. They’re energetic and fun. Maybe we can try each other’s workouts sometime!
That’s a great idea, Alice! It could help us both stay motivated.

Bob
Check your understanding
What change has Bob recently made to his diet?
Why does Bob prefer indoor workouts to jogging now?
What type of indoor exercise does Alice enjoy?
Sample answer
- Bob has cut down on sugars and carbs in his diet.
- Bob prefers indoor workouts because he doesn't like jogging in the cold weather.
- Alice enjoys taking dance classes as her type of indoor exercise.
Part 5
Speaking practice
(Talk about keeping fit)
Student will have 2-3 minutes to brainstorm and write down key points about:
- Talk about an exercise or sport you are really into and explain why you enjoy it so much.
- Talk about a type of workout or physical activity you can’t stand and the reasons behind your feelings.
Please using “be really into….” and “can’t stand….”
Example
I am really into swimming. I like it a lot because it is fun and it helps me stay cool, especially in the summer. Swimming is good for my body too; it makes my arms and legs stronger without hurting my knees like running does. I also like the quiet under the water. It is a peaceful time for me.
I can't stand running. It's hard for me because I get tired very fast and my legs hurt. Also, when it's hot outside, it's even worse because I feel very hot and sweaty. I like to walk or ride my bike more because they are easier for me…..
